Most of the children and grown-ups in Bardsey pimary school on Friday the 11th

Scarecrows!

The scarecrows that reception and year 5 have been working on are finally finished! Miss Williams and Miss Balcon delivered them safely to Harewood House for the competition. The theme was 'The Enormous Turnip!' - but instead of the turnip they used a pumpkin (to match this time of year).

All the children thoroughly enjoyed making the scarecrows.

We just hope we win!!

Mrs Barker's visit

On Monday 19th October Mrs Barker came to tell Years 5 and 6 about life in Leeds during World War 2. We found her talk fascinating and her stories, some of which were very sad, really helped to bring the topic to life. She told us about the first air raid on Leeds and how one of her friends was killed when her house was bombed. She also told us about her brothers and what happened to them.

Straw Starts to Become Scarecrows

The Receptions and Year 5 have decided to make some brilliant scarecrows to enter into the Harewood House Scarecrow Competition. Today (14.10.09) while half of the class were playing, the other half were using unwanted school uniform to start making the scarecrows.

We started to stuff straw into the tights and the bin bags. There were lots and lots of hands to help and lots and lots of mess!

While the year 5's were playing they found out that all the equipment in recpetion was the same as when they were there and it brought back lots of memories! We were all suprised that we used to be able to fit onto the play equipment.

We had lots of fun today making our awesome scarecrows! The year 5's were helping the receptions to do their best... And they did!

Year 5 and 6 visit Eden Camp

Yesterday (6/10/09) Year 5 and 6 went back in time to a place where prisoners of war (P.O.W.) were kept, with models and information telling you about WWII. At first both classes were taken to a puppet show, which was very amusing and entertaining! We were all quite wet when we came out though because they kept squirting water at us!
After the puppet show we were split into groups and off we went, learning all about WWII. There were dark bits and smokey bits and we were all scared out of our boots! Eventually it was lunch and thankfully there were no food fights!
Next, we all went to the gift shop, toy heaven for some, but it didn't last for long, we had to get back on the bus.
and that's the end of year 5 and Year 6's school trip to Eden Camp.
